well start by spelling out your words, there are no text fees in this forum :p

start by adding about 6 1.25" holes in the base of the filter box. next go to a 2" exhaust after the cat. then see if you can get your hands on an FMS cam and install that. after that, things get more complicated...

You could even eliminate the air box entirely and use an aftermarket cone filter on the intake. That takes a bit more fab skills though. FestYboy, what benefit would a 2" exhaust have on a B3? It was my understanding that the stock engine enjoyed the stock level of backpressure. If you were to go with a 2" cat-back exhaust, which muffler would be quietest and most efficient? I ask because I may be doing this sometime soon.

granted a 2" after cat pipe seems big (it is), it's also the LARGEST size you want to go to with a b3 or even mild b6, it's also the most comon size available. figure this though: most of the needed midrange backpressure is made at the cat and downpipe. if you want to make any power up top, you have to let the engine breathe and that requires a larger after cat pipe. the 1.5" od pipe from factory acts as a restrictor after about 4000 rpm.

as far as muffler, i like the Thrush Turbo II (throaty but manageable).
you should strongly consider 14ga. pipe and a resonator with this combination.

PBH, what more info are you looking for? There's not much else to say. The stock engine was designed to be economical, and relies on the stock intake design to work. There are two ways to increase the power: 1, turbo the engine (EFI only) or 2, upgrade to a B6 SOHC engine from an early 90's 323 and go with the 2" exhaust like what FestYboy was saying. I'd add another 18-22" glasspack behind the cat-con to quieten things down even more.

Do the upgrades have to be cheap too, or just simple?
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

any engine is an air pump, the more you can get in, the more you'll get out. asside from the above, there's no "easy" way to get increasses. do some research, be willing to invest some time and find a local race shop that has someone who will talk with you.

i can't give you any more info that's more consice than that. if you have a specific question or concern, feel free to ask.

the eaisest mod you can do to a motor with the biggest gains is a shot of NOS... other than that and what is said in the above posts, there is not much else... if you want good power do a motor swap...

Is your Festiva powered by Honda? You should have lots of intake options if that is the case. Is it vtec?

I seem to recall him posting about a festy that he is in the process of installing a honda, around the time the thread about how to pronounce user names came out.

However I think this thread is about a stock festy.
