Since I'm here, I may as well add my 2 cents. There is a bit of a misconception about "ram air" that was played into by the manufacturers back in the '60s. In order to be effective at increasing HP via ram effect, you would have to actually increase the static air pressure or density. Basically, turn kinetic energy from the moving air molecules into an increase in internal pressure. This takes way more energy than can be provided by a moving automobile. Other than a source of cool air, unrestricted flow and asthetics, there is no advantage to a ram air set-up.
In addition, care must be taken when working with intake air flow on EFI systems. The intake air travels in pulse waves that traverse back & forth in the intake tract. The introduction of moving air into this system can interrupt these pulse waves, resulting in stagnation of flow and engine surging at different vehicle speeds. That "little black box" attached to the factory intake tube is (in some applications) there for this very reason, as well as intake noise cancellation. The turbulence introduced by "ram air" can also effect MAF (or possibly VAF) readings.
IMO, the best you can do is provide a source of cool, dense air to the filter, without being subject to any turbulent flow that can directly effect the air flow inside the air tract or the flow reading device.
You can chose to believe me or not......I may just be full of hot air (pun intended)
festy boy is correct. im my opinion, and opinions will vary. the more backpressure you release, the more torque [tork] u will lose in .but gain it over 60mph. like festy boy said. engine runs best for me,with stock exhaust, and stock muffler. rather than an airbox mod,get a K&N air filter.the holes, will pick up more dirt. depends how u,drive, and where u,want your power. i keep festy stock, and maintenance up to snuff. and love driving it that way.

Called a Helmholtz resonator. And that's what you get for letting a college professor on the forum!

Jim rules. Now explain how ion sensing misfire monitors work. Please.
I'll have to type that up, and maybe link it. It might to big a file to simply post. Seriously. Although, I'm sure I can simplify it down to the basics. I'll do that as soon as I have a bit of time to dedicate to getting the description accurate and brief.
