  • Is a pusher fan or puller fan more efficient at cooling?

I noticed the fan on my radiator still has a lot of radiator "area" around it being set up as a puller fan. There is very little room inside the engine compartment to really mount a larger fan. However, the outer part of the radiator has tons of space to mount a much larger fan as a pusher fan. Would the larger pusher fan be more efficient at cooling than the smaller puller fan?

im running a 14" pusher ziped to the front of my civic radiator. its more about ducting the than the actual area the fan contacts
I know its a piece of crap but im still faster...and its 100% legal!!!!!

You really need to know it's air flow rating. Larger in this case does not mean it better.

The same fan will lose 15 to 20 percent moving from a puller to a pusher.

If the pusher will move that much more air (CFM) it could be better.

If you can design the shroud to move air through every part of the raditaor that helps a bunch. There is a lot of capacity there if you are experiencing heating issues it could there could be other problems

It's doing okay right now, but NC summers get really hot so I thought I'd upgrade to a larger fan. Fastiva has a 12 second car so if his 14 inch pusher is doing great, I might just do this simple upgrade.

here is what my fan/radiator ducting(unfinished) looks like. ducting is the most important cause the fan only works below 25 mph. it hasnt got above 95 yet bit is working beautifull even with mid day freeway pulls.
