Engine and Transmission Swap

Hi,
Im thinking about doing a B6T engine and a 5-speed transmission swap into my 1992 Festiva. Im just wondering about how much this would cost me just for parts. My Festiva is currently an automatic Any help for you guys would be great.

Anywhere from about $400-500 if you find a JY engine/trans really cheap and don't replace/rebuild anything, just weld up some mounts and intake and go, to $4-5k if you get a nice lower mileage engine/trans and build it up right.

Buying a donor car is the best and cheapest way to go cause you can make money back off the shell

I went to one of my local yards and they wanted $550 for the B6T off a capri XR2 and $450 for the transmission off the same car, and they dont sell complete cars there. I figured that was way over price, i believe the car had around 180K on the odometer but thats only if i remember right. I will keep looking around at other yards nearby.

Personally I'd look on kijiji or Craigslist and find an entire car for like $500, pull everything off it that you want, scrap the shell and make $2-300 back from it..... I'd never buy a junkyard engine since there's always ways to find them much cheaper

I dunno, I got my B6/G4A-HL for under $200 and my 27K BP for $250... but those kinds of deals are few and far between. Thats why I don't decide to do a motor swap, then go looking for a motor, I just wait till a motor shows up, then I decide to swap something lol.

unless you can find a pull-a-part near you. i paid 100 for my bp. ive got 300 in the total swap and that includes rebuilding the bp. but it is hard to find an engine there that is in good enough shape to rebuild, the reason they are there is usually the engine or trans exploding or locking up lol

You are going to need other donor parts besides the engine; the ecu, a good chunk of wiring harness, the knock box, vacuum control system, fuel pump, clutch pedal assembly from a standard festiva, and so on. A donor car is easiest because you know you will have everything you need.

Wont the stock fuel pump off my car work? Also dumb question but what is a knock box?

Getting your hands on an entire and rolling donor car with a running engine (proves everything still works) will allow you to trace and transplant wiring and sensors, ECU etc etc. Otherwise (for instance) that simple engine mount, rad hose or electrical connector you needed or wanted is not there. You can always shop for a JDM engine after, or rebuild the one you've got.
Bent or rusted cars, (or destitute owners) rarely have much value and all you have to have is cash on hand and to be patient.

That'd be too simple.... He has a hard time posting in the right section let alone using the search feature.... I think I've moved 5-6 of his threads now to the proper section.... This thread being one of them (started off in the garage section)
