  • What carb is this?

At the yard they had just set out an '83 Escort wagon. The carb looked like it was in good shape and I remembered the thread on using an escort manifold to adapt a carb to a B8 so I went ahead and grabbed the whole thing, intake and all for $25. I'd like to put this carb on FestEvil probably, if for no other reason just so I can ditch all the vac lines and feedback stuff. But after some searching and cross-reffing I have several places that call it a Holley carb, some say Weber, others say Holley/Weber. Any ideas? Here's a pic, its from a straight shift '83 Escort wagon.

I grabbed the entire throttle cable with it, I think it will be easier to use that than adapt the festiva cable to the carb. It does have the electric choke, but other than that it doesn't use any external inputs, just gas lol
    No festiva for me ATM...

its a Holley copy of a Weber DGEV. Beware the throttle shaft bushings...

Ok, just talked to one of my buddies who knows carbs better than I do, he says it should be a Holley if its the factory one. Jim confirms as well. Any reasons why I should/shouldn't use this on a festiva? I don't know big engine carbs that well, so don't really know what I'm looking for in terms of usefulness. Seems like since it came on a 1.6 originally it should flow well enough for a B3, or even B6? Or am I way off?

Weber DGEV is the 32/36 that a lot of folks on here have converted to right? So I should be good running it on FestEvil? Biggest difference I notice right away is that the choke butterflies shafts (and I assume the throttle shafts as well) are parallel on the Holley vs. inline on the Weber.

I can't post any pics right now, but I have a Holley/Weber DGEV. At least I'm pretty sure it's a DGEV. It's the old Pinto/Vega carb. And it doesn't look like the Escort carb.

That Escort carb looks 'synchronized', rather than 'progressive'. A synchronized carb has barrels and butterflys that are the same size, and open at the same time. A progressive carb has a smaller primary that opens first.

Synchronized carbs are better for performance, progressives better for gas mileage, as a general rule.

Could you post some pics of the escort carb from the bottom and side? I'll do the same for mine, a little later.

I'm on a new/used computer...a Dell XPS 400. I'm not set for pics yet, but the computer rocks!

I'll try to get some pics up but mine dose have a slightly smaller size butter fly that opens first,, the smaller of the butterflies is just a hair smaller, hard to tell unless you look very closely and they definitely open at different times.

I am using William's adaptor with the Escort Holley Ford Weber 2bbl carb on an 88. It is running good.

This shows the original autochoke that later died .......i went to a manual choke cable that is working.
