  • Has anyone got any advice for a 1.9L escort gt swap

I found a nice escort gt near by for 800 and was wondering if anyone here has done this swap and has some advice or better yet pics for me.
Doc Browns' other car was a Festiva

1.9L is a Ford Motor and difficult to install as Festivas are Mazda based.
91-96 Escort GT's have Mazda 1.8 DOHC's at 127 hp(vs 63 for a stock 1.3)and are not a difficult install if you use the stock Festy trans, just build the motor mount. Its much more involved if you use the G series transmission. You 'll have to build the Trans mounts with the G series. XR2 transmissions have a cable clutch like the Festiva. Some of the others , I.E. Escort GT are hydraulic controlled.
Look left on the main page and look for the word "forum" . Click on it and look for engines. There are separate sections for turbo'ed and normally Aspirated motors. Also check out the garage. Lots of build threads there too.
    Here is the link
Discuss making performance enhancements to the OEM-spec engine in your Festiva or Aspire.

Members Builds (questions about repair or how to do something belong in the proper forum)

    And the engine swap link.

Jerry is right, first we need to narrow it down to whether the car you are looking at is an Escort GT (with the 1.8DOHC mazda motor, dubbed "BP") of if it is an Escort LX/Pony (with the 1.9SOHC ford motor, dubbed "SPI"). If it is indeed a 1.9L then I would recommend against doing the swap. I could technically be done, but would require a lot of extra work that really wouldn't be wortht the effort (in my opinion). If its a true GT then the valve cover will have the Ford logo and also say "DOHC 16-VALVE". That engine is a great candidate to swap into a festiva, just look it up in the engine swap forums like Jerry suggested, there is a lot of info on it!
      No festiva for me ATM...

It just occured to me that you might be talking about the late 80s EGTs with a 1.9HO. Again, not a very good candidate for a festiva. The only Escort motor that is a really good match is the 1.8L DOHC motor from the 91-96 GT and LX-E (LX-E is pretty rare, basically a 4 door GT) or the even rarer Mercury Tracer LTS from the same years.
