Could someone tell me what automatic trans is best suited for my 89 B6 engine. We installed it with a 93 Festiva automatic in a 93 Festive but apparently the trans is broken because it won't go in gear. There was some rattling sounds coming from around the starter area when we first started it up then when we placed it in gear the motor would stall! It did this a couple of times then whatever was binding broke loose and now the motor runs smooth (no load). Nothing happens when you go thru the gears. We got the 93 festiva Automatic with a blown head gasket, so we weren't sure if the car ran or not! I found a auto trans from a 95 Aspire. Will this bolt in?

Yes it should bolt in but I'm not positive about autos since I have only had manual Festies.. Maybe there are wiring differences that I don't know about. The only other option is to find another Festy auto tranny. -KyleCosmic Blue 2008 Mazdaspeed 3 - Mostly Stock...

Did you bolt the torque converter to the flex plate when you installed the B6? Automatics shouldn't "rattle".You gonna race that thing?

yes....the other thing too is that the starter hits the flexplate so I had to shim it to clear it. Does this sound right?? Is there any difference in clearance on the end of the cranks between these two motors? I swapped the flexplate, flexplate bolts, converter, trans, trans mount (firewall side) and starter from the 93 Festiva and bolted it up to the 89 B6. And it all went back into the 93 Festiva. Should I look for a Automatic trans from the same year B6 or are there other year/make auto trans that I can use? Do you think a 95 Aspire auto trans would work?? Thanks for the help!!!

yes, well, somethings wrong with the trans. It won't start in PARK. It will only start in REV. And it won't move in any gear. The engine runs fine. The trans oil is topped off where its suppose to be. I bought the car with a blown head gasket and I took the word of the owner that the car ran fine prior. So, now I'm looking for a new Auto trans. Should I get one from the same year as the B6? Or does it matter from either B3 or B6? Thanks for your interest!!
