  • Clutch Kit

I just got back from Basic Training in the Marine Corps and while i was gone my friends had finished swapping in my BP engine and 5-speed tranny. Within the 5 days that Ive been here I already threw out the clutch. I have 2 questions, First what is the best clutch kit that money can buy for the BP engine matted to the stock Festy 5-speed tranny, and two what is the "best bang for your buck" clutch kit for it?

    Thanks for any help!

The bp will blow through a stock festy clutch, I can spin through one at 110 hp without dropping the clutch, It's more than twice the HP.

E-Series is what i currently have and i would prefer to keep for now untill i have other mods done, then the tranny will be upgraded but for now i want to stick with the stock tranny. I know it is not the best for the BP but its only temporary...

You can certainly do that, but you have to drive it like a b3! make no illusions about that. So sure you can drive it...for a while.
From the factory B6 and b8 engines are mated to f trannys, which they don't use for the bp, they instead use the bigger yet g series for the BP engines.
Now some of us have mated BP's to f transaxles, but we're usually upgrading the clutches at the same time. You're really limited on clamping options for the e series though.
I run a exedy brand suzuki turbo clutch on my e series equiped b6 which makes around 130-135 hp and have had great success with that, but it would not be economical or easy for you to do that.

You can do research on clutch sizes at one of the clutch companies "specs" sections using the info I just gave you to compare the differences. Of course this will show you how much more surface area is used,
you just have to realize that the clamping rates also increase exponentialy with the naturally larger pressure plates supplied as well. Exedy has a pretty good site for this as well as excellent clutches. imo

When they completed the swap for you, did they install a new clutch or re-use the old one? Did they resurface the flywheel? I guess you should also consider that you can spend several hundred on a clutch kit for the E tranny, which could be used to buy a stronger F or G tranny.

Brought back fond memories of PI. Good luck in the future. Car wise, find the weakest link, something's got to give. Better baby this setup, no sudden moves.

I've ran the crap out my BP with stock tranny. Clutch is just now starting to slip but only when I get on it. It's the same clutch that came with the car. Haven't had any issues with tranny with yet. Of course I haven't don't a tone of hard launches with but I have done some

Get the exedy hd clutch kit from ebay. 110$ . I broke 3 trannys with by b6-me swap (90+ hp) and auto crossed it and took it to the strip, redline clutch drops and it NEVER slipped or chattered once. Unless u wanna buy a puck clutch and loose some driveability.

That's because this post is over 4 years old lol.

Go to ebay and copy and paste this line into the search box:

EXEDY GENUINE CLUTCH PRO-KIT SET 1994-1997 FORD ASPIRE 1988-93 FESTIVA 1.3L

You should be able to see something for around $115 w/free shipping.

Remember, many of the guys on here are talking about their specific cars, not just Festiva's and Aspires in general and many of those setups are no longer use "stock" components.

Thanks for clearing that up! It says that it is an OE replacement, i'm looking for a clutch that will hold more power (a b6t in my case) like the original poster was looking for.
