Megasquirt B3 engine, anyone know injector dead time?

Hi 'ya,

I did a megasquirt II install on a B3 engine a few weeks ago. The car runs great and I'm doing some fine tuning.

Anyone else do a Megasquirt install?

I'm interested if anyone knows the correct "dead time" on the stock 120cc injectors.

Seems the car will run with any number plugged in but I would like to use something close to the correct number.

oooo, awesome, do you have a write up for this. i have a ms3 just waiting to go into my aspire. but im one of those kinda guy who cant really do something till ive seen it done before. but no, i do not know the injector dead time.

Hi,

I plan on doing a full write up on the installation with wiring diagrams. The electrical part of the installation was easy and I had the car running and driving in 3 days. The tuning part requires a bit of thinking and asking a lot of questions on different forums. I'll also publish the MSQ file this will make setup a lot easier.

You will want to get familiar with tunerstudio software. You can download tunerstudio for free and use most of the functions, but you will need to eventually pay something like $60.00 to unlock some of the advanced features.

Also look into purchasing A wideband O2 sensor and controller. I'm using an innovative motorsports LC1.

MS = MegaSquirt. Megasquirt is a stand alone ECU that is fully programmable.

Will be entrigued to read more about this even thought i have a carby motor.. sounding more delicious by the minute.


out of curiousity and not to sound stupid at all, i read about how they are for EFI setups, but is there something for a carby setup at all? as in being able to see how the ecu works for the carby and adjusting the values for it via the ecu as well as any tweaks that we carby drivers might be able to take advantage of at all?

The carby upgrade is a Weber Escort carb. That is where you'll get most of your tuning, since there are no injectors.

I'm on megasquirt for the bp. I used 25.4 I believe for the injectors. I can look through my setup. I'm still learning it.

If you can log this, I can explain how to use it to help set up dead time on the injectors. Yeah, I figured you were using SD.

I went ahead and set up an injector test apparatus and measured actual dead time. Tuner Studio has a feature that allows injector testing. I thank you for the offer to help.

For others who may look into megasquirt, the dead time or lag time is one of the fundamental numbers that the ECU needs to work correctly. The car will run on almost any number, but the correct number makes all the difference.

A 120cc purple Festiva injector measures 1.2 ms @ 42 psi with gasoline. The voltage was 12.20 volts at the injector hot side.

An Aspire injector (year and cc unknown) color black measures 1.22 at 42 psi and 12.20 volts.

Basically both injectors have the same profile.

These numbers are GOLD and someday somebody will need 'em.

I have a MS for my aspire that's all setup, and will be plugging back in shortly. I had started setting up tuner studio sensor settings a few months ago but my laptop died, I'm about ready to reinstall my turbo and continue with my MS. If I can be of any assistance please ask.
