Escort Carb Adapter (Would this work?)

I've studied the various solutions members have found to adapt a Escort Holley/Weber carb to the 1.3 manifold. Seems the 3 schools of thought are:
- Weld the manifold and tap for a new stud pattern
- Build an aluminum adapter to accommodate both stud patterns and transition the pattern from escort to festiva
- Build a steel adapter that brings the escort pattern to a festiva-like shape to fasten on the manifold

I'm considering a slightly different approach to the second option that would be simple enough for anyone to build.


As I have the gaskets lined up, it would seem the only obstruction is that "lip" where the circle is flat. My thoughts are, if I grind this portion off the manifold, could the adapter I construct be of the escort pattern with 2 holes?

Here's a photoshop to give you an idea of what I'm considering. Is there any room to shave this back a little?

Forget the adapter. Just take the manifold to a machine shop with the Escort gasket. They will do some aluminum welding. Reface the flange, drill and tap new holes. You will have a better orientation for the throttle pull.

but an adapter is a lot cheaper than welding.machine work and plus could be switched from car to car with not much hassle.

There is no room under the hood for sound insulation, once you have an adapter in place. By the time you play around removing the bolts to the adapter, you could have the entire intake with the carb removed.
