have a good 4speed but i drive at least 500 miles a month and 4 speed is not really made for the interstate. so i found a 5 speed at the junkyard and cleaned it up changed axle seals and put new flywheel and clutch kit on and new fluid, just to find out that the transmission is no good it whines real bad so now i've pulled it out and do not know what road to take rebuild is around 600 at shop and i have never messed with internal tranny parts, could take the chance on another used one but if i got to bad i'd been better off getting the rebuild. so i was wondering if there might be a better tranny option hence the post to ask the festiva guru's to chime in thanks for all help ahead of time

If you find one used with a warranty for 6 months minimum for not too much more it sounds like that would be better money spent, especially when you are looking for an improvement that has yet to be proven...Reflex paint by Langeman...Lifted...Tow Rig

best transmission for a b3
With all the people on here that do engine/trans swaps, I bet you could find one cheaper then $200
Like if I had a stock trans kickin around I'd probably just give it away lol
1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor
1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)
If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Maybe it's just me, but $600 sounds pretty high to rebuild a tranny that's already out of the car. I pulled the 5-speed out of mine and took it to a large transmission repair shop. They rebuilt it with new bearings and seals for $250...parts and labor included. They bought the rebuild kit for $130 (less synchros) and charged $120 labor. Took them a couple hours.
i could see $600 if they had to pull the trans and install a new clutch.Brian

If I recall...55 MPH with the 4 speed is about 2900 rpm. 2300 rpm with a festy 5 speed and maybe 2700 with the aspire 5 speed?91GL BP/F3A with boost

does not really matter in a decision hoping for something better, Given that you do not have it yet and it may exceed or fall short of your expectations,
the smallest investment possible to try out what you have in mind. A used transmission can always be rebuilt later and it would also give you time to find
a better deal for a rebuilder.Reflex paint by Langeman...Lifted...Tow Rig
