i have the 96 aspire that has the built in coil and distributor. im not fond of the idea of ever having to replace this and id prefer to get it updated with something less wear before it leaves me stranded. i see the distributor has two sets of wiring going to it, one set has 3 wires, the other has 5. im guessing that one goes to the coil and one is used for monitoring of some sort. could i use the coil wires for an external coil, and feed the hv back tot eh distributor somehow.? not much luck finding anyone thats done this. but i swear ive seen a car on here that was set up that way.

you may want to join FAST or ford aspire. com and ask there. so far as i know, it CAN be done with a 94-95 aspire, but 96-97 aspires are more tricky and doing this may mess with the OBDII and such.

as it is, i've yet to see a dristributor/coil failure in an aspire, ever....
