  • found the powertrain for my next swapped Festy!

But I'll have to wait awhile to get my hands on one!

GM's new Spark EV should be putting up some decent range numbers. It goes into production in March, and will hit CA and DC first in the US, with the rest of the country following next year. The GM/Allison Transmission Plant here in Baltimore is making the electric motor and complete transaxle. Just saw the first production units this morning. They are only building 7-8 units per day! Its rated at 130hp and 400lb/ft of torque! And its in a package about the size of a stock Festiva transaxle! I asked for a free sample at the end of the tour this morning... they said no! HA! I'll be looking for a salvage vehicle to rob!

I didn't see it, but I most likely missed it..

What's the battery range, if you accelerate floored all the time?

oh, sorry, the article didn't list range. Rep at the plant about 100 usable (real world) miles per charge. I think he said its rated at 125 miles/charge in testing.

Ah, thanks. 100 doesn't seem too bad, lots better than that 25 mile range Festiva on Craigslist. :highly_amused:

Too bad it's so ugly.. I'd love an electric that could do that; in about 10 years.

Smokes! I can lift out the Prius battery packs one handed, and the case part is so big it makes it awkward. I would guess the weight as under 50 pounds. The article states that this new car has over 500 lbs of battery pack?? I hope the replacement expense is not proportional!!

That is about double the weight of the dreamliner batteries..

I would feel better tucking little battery packs in all the nooks and crannies
of the car. Wire all that up to equal that one big monster. If they do not get recalled copart may have some available because of the "dreamliner" chronic condition!
