In the next month I'm planning to swap in a BP. Recently I have acquired a BP with a bad block. That 93 ford escort head was tested at a machine shop and modified with the exintake cam. I just bought a 97 Kia BP full dressed motor that I heard running before we pulled it. I took the G tranny and ECU, exhaust and VAF. I bought a ECU from a 94 Mazda miata BP.
I want the most HP I can get out of this combo without sacrificing reliability. The complete kia motor has 83k miles on the Sephia.
I was thinking of swapping heads (new headgasket) from the escort to the Sephia and using the Maita ECU. I know I'm not playing with Legos here but aren't they all compatible?

This could be a shot in the dark, but doesn't the '97 BP run by OBD-II? If you changed the head over, would you have more sensors and different plugs since it is OBD-II? I'm really asking out of curiosity, since the crossover of auto makers from OBD-I seems like 10x more complicated than the old way...

He's talking about running the EGT head and miata ecu...both of which are obd-I

That is part of my concern, OBDII of the Kia. Will the 93 escort head be better and allow the OBD1 miata ECU? Or?

With only 83k, I would leave it alone. I don't see any gain worth the labor or risk of something going wrong. You'll have more power than you can put to the ground anyway.

Any thoughts on the Miata ECU?

I'm guessing I will have to run all Kia. (Block, engine ECU, and VAF) It would be the simplest.

im pretty sure the heads are the same from egt to Sephia. The Sephia actually has a better intake and trans when compared to the EGT. I see no reason to run the EGT ecu unless the Sephia has to much emission junk?
