  • Beefing up driveline

    Hey guys.

Planning to autocross our festiva, and I figure we should put some money into the drivetrain so it doesn't grenade on us.
I've heard that the clutch disk is small, but haven't really looked into any of the rest of the drivetrain.

What would you suggest to beef up the driveline, so it can handle clutch drops and general abuse?

How much power are you planning on running exactly? And can you remind me of what motor you guys are running on that car?

Right now, stock power (open intake and exhaust).
I believe it's the FI B3 that came stock in the '93 Festiva.

you'll want at least an F-series trans... then again, you have gone through great lengths to lighten the chassis and that takes load off the trans (a good thing). SO, if you want to keep the E-series trans in it, you can do the Suzuki Swift clutch mod to gain some clamping force. it's an easy mod that any good machinest can perform in an afternoon.
            Trees aren't kind to me...

            currently: 2 88Ls (Scrappy and Jersey), 88LX, 90L(Pepe), 91L, 91GL (Skippy) 93 GL Sport (the Mighty Favakk), 94 (Bruce) & 95 Aspire SEs, 97 Aspire (The Joker),
94 Justy 4WD, 87 Fiero GT, plus 2 parts cars. That's my fleet.

Is it worth it to just swap the trans? Or should I be doing a full motor/trans swap?

Wait until something grenades and then swap?

                Beefing up driveline

My outlook is, if it breaks then upgrade it

                1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
                1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?
