Ford Aspire powering steering unit conversion.

I installed a b6 SOHC 8 valve engine into my 1995 Aspire. I have just installed a 5 speed from a 1989 Tracer in the car as well and took out the automatic transmission, In the process I decided to replace the manual steering rack with a power unit. So I went to the salvage hard and got all of the brackets and a power steering pump from a 1995 Aspire that had power steering and air-conditioning in it. After everything was bolted into place and all of the fabrication of mounts etc was completed we discovered that he serpentine belt pulley from the B3 engine in the donor car would not fit the crank on the B6.

Has anyone run into this problem and if so how did you solve it??

I have determined wherein the problem lies. I rebuilt an engine from a 1989 Tracer which had a "small nose crank shaft". If you are going to build a SOHC 8 Valve B6 get one from late 1990 and newer then you will have no problems or at least minimal problems finding power steering and air conditioning setups for it.

I finally had some pulleys and a crank shaft gear machined to meet my needs.

Hey grats on figuring it out. I'm sure you could have found a pulley setup that would work but going to the machine shop may have been an easier option...definately not cheaper but hey whatever it takes right.

There were more issues in this one. The Aspire, with power steering and air conditioned took 2 serpentine belts(donor car)

The 1989 Trace, without either, was a V belt set up for the alternator. The alternator for the donor car with the aforementioned setup also had a requirement for a serpentine belt. The pulley from the serpentine setup would not fit the alternator on the V belt setup alternator which meant that I would have both a V belt pulley as well as a serpentine pulley OR buy an alternator for the serpentine setup. I went with the V belt and Serpentine setup. This meant that I really did not have anymore mount fabrication to contend with. Does this seem clear enough? I sometimes confuse myself.
