  • Basic Engine Swap Info Please? :)

Needing some engine swap info. The info is very scattered and very confusing. The engine swap guide PDF link is also down or Im sure that would otherwise help.

Wanting to go to something bigger than a B3, but I want to keep my carburetor. I currently have a 88 Festiva with a 95 Aspire B3 in it.

What engines can I use my current stock intake with, and what kind of engine mount modifications / other modifications would they require ? I've heard that the B6 is the "easiest" but is the power gain noticeable? Also, in certain engines I know that there are certain differences from year to year.

Would also like to keep my still strong b3 transmission. Would a b6/b8/bp/bpt kill it?

I also would plan on keeping all of the accessories with whatever engine I am getting. Example: Leaving pulleys, altenator, etc on the engine I am pulling

B6 works fine with my stock tranny. Wish I could tell you about keeping the carby, but I THINK it should be doable.

If you want to keep your carb without any fab work you're looking at an early B6, or bolting your B3 intake (head?) onto a later B6 block.

B3 intake will not fit on the later B6 head without some serious mods to cooling passages. If you want to keep the carb then for simplicity's sake I'd say early (86-89) B6 out of a Mazda 323 or Mercury Tracer. The festiva intake will bolt right on.
          No festiva for me ATM...

Carb conversion to any of the B8s is out of the question (they were all EFI) as were all of the later B6s. Now nobody said you can't install a new harness and ECU but that's a lot of work.
