  • Stainless steel muffler

Hey guys finally got the transmission repaired and now festy is up and running again. Bad part is my lifetime muffler is rusting out every year even if I added extra holes to drain out the water. My shop told me the best way is to install a stainless steel muffler. Even though the muffler is free I'm still charged with the 40dollor welding fee. So I'm debating on getting a borla universal 2" offset muffler and A vibrant ultra quiet resonator. Both are stainless. What you guys think will it be too loud for these cars? Oh the stock muffler I'm using is the walker sound FX piece of crap btw lol.

If you have a stock resonator just get the muffler and it won't be too loud.

But if your stock res is rusted out or gone. Yeah get the res and muffler and it will have a nice sound to it.
It's weird when I got my car and got rid of the resonator I actually lost 2mpgs average per tank.
So now I'm replacing it with a new one soon with the exhaust install.

Just make sure if you buy a stainless setup that you go to a shop that used stainless to weld with
otherwise the welds will be the weakest link and they will still rust out.

I paid $79 for a magnaflow stainless muffler
And $79 for their 18" stainless resonator
    Both free shipping on eBay.
So try not to spend too much some shops charge $190 for a stainless muffler don't get ripped off.

Right now I'm looking at the borla 2" and 2.25 vibrant ultra flow and also a magnaflow direct fit cat. 124 for borla, 89 for resonator and 129 for cat. Install will be I think 100-120. I need this thing to last. Is yours loud on free way? My stock resonator didn't even survive 2years. Aluminized steel sucks!

Do you have sound clips of your magnaflow?

So my new long tube header and exhaust go on July 8.
The old setup was diff header to the stock cat, no resonator, 1.75" pipe back to the stock muffler.
And it was quiet up to 3500-4000 rpms then it gets louder but its not deep its more higher pitched.
Go on magnaglows website and do a catalytic converter look up for your vehicle.
It will show you options for direct fit vs universal I believe.
Then take that part number and find it cheaper on eBay.
I emailed magnaflow for my application and told me to get the (99004hm) 2" inlet/outlet.
But it has no flanges so it is getting welded on and it was $96 online
but I found a site that had one left clearing out stock it was $55 free shipping new.

Same thing with the muffler for example my stock muffler was 4.5x9 oval 13" deep.
So on magnaflows site looked at the different muffler sizes through the universal section.
          I got the one that is 4"x9" oval and 14" deep 2" inlet/outlet. (11214)
Take your model number and find it on eBay.

Then on their site look at their different size and length resonators and choose the best for you.
I got the one with the 2" inlet/outlet (10434) but it may be a little long for your application.
          Might want the smaller one.

But take some measurments before looking online so you have numbers for comparison.
With a resonator it will clean up the sound of the exhaust note.
It will sound nice and not too loud.

Without it will have slight more volume at wot with the new muffler.

Im sorry I have no clips of the old or new because my old header is removed and coolant is drained
While I wait for some pieces in the mail to install my long tube header.
But even with the header my exhaust isn't too loud.

All in all it was about $213 for everything.

Your probably the only one with a magnaflow. I'm gonna hold on for a while cause I just got the new lifetime muffler. Maybe in a year I'll start ordering piece by piece but will go for a borla. Once you get it all together you really need to let us hear.

Send me a pm July 9th.
That should be one day after I get everything done.
              Everything is magnaflow can't wait.
I'll be glad to post a clip.

Seeing as most mufflers sounds are a guessing game.
And every car responds differently to different mufflers.
You'll never really know what your getting until its done.
That's the only part of exhaust building I don't like.
              Is the blind choosing.

Exactly! I've seen an aspire with a magnaflow boomer muffler which sounded like a trumpet. It had a huge tip maybe 3inches didn't sound too good. Your will probably sound better with the resonator and high flow cat and smaller outlet on the muffler. Be awesome to hear it. I have heard festys with cherry bombs, turbo mufflers, straight pipes but no magnaflow 2". All sounded ok but too loud and raspy for my taste. I want a low tone with very little interior resonance. I used to have a sports tone muffler and dynomax turbo muffler in the past both a little loud and buzzy. Hopefully the vibrant resnator will lesson the noise.
