this will be a prelude to posting a WTB. i have the capri intermmediate shaft and new bearings and seals but no bracket to mount it all to the block. does anyone know if the same bracket might've been used on other mazda's other than the 323 turbo? or a kia sephia with DOHC 1.8?

The intermediate shaft should have a bracket on it already. There are only two halfshafts that I know of, the one that goes to the 1.6L with the cable G series (which comes up short on a BP when using a cable trans, but at the correct angle) and the one for the the BP with the hydro Gseries. This one lines up perfectly with the bolt holes in the BP when using a hydro trans, but the angle will be off with a cable trans. Sadly the BP one has the wrong outboard spline count and does not fit the Capri/323GT passenger side axle that is needed for use in a festiva. There might be some other oiptions with the Zerec Escorts that used G series trans, but they will also have the higher spline count. If any of that made sense. I've tried putting a hyrdo BP bracket on Cable (Capri) shaft, and it still doesn't line up right. No festiva for me ATM...

Nope, that's the only piece that will fit. I'm told there's an axle/hybrid axle combo out there that can bypass it and run one long axle, but it's there to keep torque steer down. Hell even the AWD models have an intermediate shaft (the shafts are different and even harder to find for the AWD models) So I don't know if that would be asking for trouble1991 Mercury Capri XR2 "GTXR2" BPT Swapped AWD Conversion

^^^ Kia Rio, '99-'01 I think, but don't quote me on it. I do know that when I ordered one for an '01, it worked. Gives you the same axle setup as the festiva, with the passenger side one being nearly twice as long. Plenty of torque steer though, using a beefier motor and trans. No festiva for me ATM...

ok thanks for the tips. i'm just starting to delve into this quagmire. don't even have the transmission yet. i am a little puzzled htchbk when you say the jackshaft should be attached to the bracket. you don't mean permanently? how would i replace the bearing on the jackshaft that ride in the bracket if they can't be seperated?

The bearing is pressed onto the shaft, and the bearing is pressed into the bracket. If you got the intermediate shaft, it should come as one unit. I can't find any in my pics bin at the moment1991 Mercury Capri XR2 "GTXR2" BPT Swapped AWD Conversion

It's just odd, they're kind of a hassle to separate (not going to happen by accident) and there's no reason they should ever really be apart

I took mine apart to try putting an EGT bracket on a Capri halfshaft, hoping that might help with installation on a BP+Hydro G series install... it didn't. And Rocketman is right, its something that has to be done on purpose, I had to use a 20 ton press to do it lol.No festiva for me ATM...

once more, thanks for the input and especially the pic. i can understand why most guys sell or buy the whole works and leave well enough alone. my uncle gave me just the shaft from one of his junk capris but then that's all i asked him for. (i guess he takes things literally and has a 50 ton press). since he threw away or lost the rest of it, (he's getting senile i think also) i thought i'd try and cobble up the rest. the bearings were easy, still being available from mazda but i'm surprised the bracket is so specific. intermmediate shafts are on alot of mazda cars and even on my escort LX-E and given their simplicity, i would think that mazda would've adapted the same bracket and tap the same bolt pattern in their various blocks and save the tooling costs and additional part numbers and stocking costs of a myriad of brackets. does anyone have an idea of how much stress of any kind or direction this bracket absorbs under acceleration? would it be feasible, aside from cost, to have it machine from billet? is the distance that the capri bracket holds the bearing/shaft off of the back of the block very critical or do you think or is there some wiggle room tolerated by the CV/tripod joints?
