  • what would you rather have? BP automatic or B3/B6 5-speed?

hi again guys, i currently have a blown head on a b3, engines and trannys are the same price, there are ushally always tons of escort gts, tracers, 323s aspires too..

Now i cant do the g25mr swap becuase there is no way in hell they will have a 323gt or capri xr2 for axles,I-shaft. this really bites!
so my only options would be
    bp+stock automatic
bp+stock festiva 5-speed, (i cant really this this live long)
or a nice low mileage b3/b6 with 5-speed?

    thanks for your help!

guess it depends if you wanna get there quicker or cheaper. with gas as it is id sure hate to give up gas mileage for a bit more kick. so id take the low mileage b3 and 5 speed. if gas was like it use to be id go with a more wild option.

I did my B6 swap onto my '93GL ATX. It does all right, though I know it would be more fun performing with a 5 speed. My fuel economy averages between 30 and 35 mpg, so that's still good. I drive "moderate to brisk," shall we say.

You'll enjoy a BP/ATX combo, but you'll probably see a 3 to 5 mpg decrease in fuel economy (just a guess) if you take it easy.

The main advantage of the B6 swap is the ease of doing it. It should also result in the lightest possible front end weight engine-wise. My next swap (I already have another B6 and a '92L to put it in) will be a 5 speed/B6.

Once I do my second engine swap, I'll consider something different. My 5 speed/B6 will have a more tuned motor than my ATX. I'm hoping for around 110 hp, which should handle and function a lot better than a stock BP/ATX, and it might even match the raw performance on a drag strip.

If you like to accelerate, go for the BP/ATX and mod the motor for extra horsies.

If you prefer ease of assembly and better handling and fuel economy, do the B6/MTX.

If you just want fuel economy, the B3 would be your best bet.

if you want the best bang for your buck, both in initial price and fuel economy, I would say go with a B6/MTX. I was getting 45MPG with my stock B3 in my '93 5speed, and I put in a B6 and my fuel economy only went down to 43MPG and the B6 is a lot better on power and takeoff. My theory as to why the B6 barely uses more gas is because the B6 is much better matched to the car in terms of power... ie, the B3 has to overwork itself because it is underpowered, while the B6 is right at home with a little extra power when necessary... just my $0.02... of course, now I have a BP with the stock 5 speed, and I'm barely getting 35MPG... but I have plenty of horses under the hood that I don't even use
        No festiva for me ATM...

ok, well i found and pulled a b6 from a 89/90 tracer that was rolled, 77k miles! isomone grabbed the trans and the motor was only hanging by 1 bolt,

I found a 5-speed donor in the same junkyard but it was sitting in a foot of water!, heh next week for that i guess..
