I just noticed on Rock Auto that the Capri XR2 fuel pump is the same one used on the Festy! And a lot of other cars as well. I'm guessing that since XR2 stock boost is only about 6? pounds, a fuel pump for a non-boost application is good enough. But if you have some serious boost, what fuel pumps are best to look at getting? And are easiest to stick in the tank with minimal work?

Most people use walbros. I forget what I got but its supposed to be superior/quieter than a walbro.
As far as other factory pumps? I wouldn't bother. A used one could die and a new one will be more expensive and flow less than a walbro or other aftermarket.91GL BP/F3A with boost

Walbros flow about 60 PSI IIRC. How high can you go with boost @60PSI?
Also, how long do the stock Denso pumps typically last for an EFI Festy or Aspire, in either years or miles?Last edited by TominMO; 09-11-2013, 11:05 AM.90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods

Is rocketman recommending a fuel pump upgrade for his B6T ECUs? That should tell you something.
The pump should support more than people think.
I know a remap is different than using a FMU, BUT if you do bigger injectors AND the FMU with a stock pump and lowered base pressure, you should be able to stay safe.
I am going (very slowly on my build) with a Crown Vic pump. They are cheap new, and flow enough for a V8 making gobs of torque. Maybe 2 of them for "serious" boost on the cheap. Would be under $40 plus ship from rockauto.Last edited by sketchman; 09-11-2013, 12:27 PM.Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

depends on its history.
One used everyday and filled-up completely at each refuel went 235,000 miles.
I bet if I had not let it set for 2 yrs it would be running today.
Picked up a festy with 85k miles on it, but it had sat for a long time and I got it for parts and the engine so it sate longer and the pump died one time while trying to give the motor a good run.
I still wonder if a good cleaning might bring some of these pumps back from the dead.'93 Blue 5spd 230K(down for clutch and overall maintanence)

For a B6T running a stock or hybrid turbo you don't need a fuel pump upgrade. The N/A and XR2 pumps are the same. I will always recommend a good fuel pump re-wire though to ensure it gets proper power1991 Mercury Capri XR2 "GTXR2" BPT Swapped AWD Conversion

Google "Fuel Pump Re-Wire" there's some pretty good instructions for the DSM cars. Basically you create a new fused circuit, using heavier gauge wire directly to the pump. Well, you put a relay right near the pump, and use the original power wire to trigger the relay. The stock wire is pretty small and has a large voltage drop by the time it gets to the pump - by running a heavier gauge wire you effectively increase the power available to the pump. I will be doing one soon on my new Capri, I'll make a writeup out of it.1991 Mercury Capri XR2 "GTXR2" BPT Swapped AWD Conversion
