To lift an eyebrow that engine has to beat a protege's economy and/or power by a significant amount, which they do not. Even hyundai cars this decade are barely hitting the 40mpg mark...it is a heavier car so it would do well in a festiva, but those engines arent 185.99 all day long at any yard i know of.

Not enough upside, for the amount of work and fabbing needed. IMHO

Adapting over to OBDII is going to mean entirely stripping out the dash and tangling with a whole other wiring harness. I don't envy you for that inordinate amount of work just so can say you put in another engine. Likely there are also going to be huge obstacles such as speedos (are they electronic in 04s? vs cable in Festys) and other sensors, controls and gauges too.

Alternative is to buy a standalone fi management system that's odb2 compliant.

You are totally wrong there Burt, OBD2 is not much more work then OBD1

I was thinking of going with a 01 jetta dash also in the swap but I think that would be too much work....

might just do an Aspire swap with this engine, as even tho the Aspire is about 200 lbs more heavy then the Festiva, it is still about 500 lbs lighter then the accent and ours hauls butt!
