  • extrude honing

So I been thinking about modifying my intake manifold.

I don't want a custom built one even though it would be cool as hell.

So I was thinking about how hard it would be to try and evenly port/polish the runners
Not being able to get down into the deep portions/not being visible.

    And I was thinking
Can't they just hone the basic shape of the runner with some sort of flexible honing tool?

    Turns out they can't.

But the next best thing is extrude honing.
They put this abrasive putty liquid/solid into the manifold and under pressure force it through the manifold.
And it slowly removes material evenly through the runners
By following them through however they bend and twist.

And it doesn't remove a ton of material
It claims %15-%30 gains in cfm of flow depending on application.

And increases the useable powerband by retaining the stock shape and length of the manifold.

And I'm really interested in this idea.
And would like to hear what others may think of it?

Or possibly feedback from someone who may have possibly had it done to a vehicle in the past.

I'll talk to mattdickmeyer about it tommorrow before work and see what his opinions are on the subject
And if he possibly has the abilities to do this, or sub it out to a reliable shop he knows.

can't say i've ever heard anything BAD about it, and i've been thinking about having a few pieces done with it, but the budget/time factor keep getting in the way.

It looks like a feasible option.
And seems like a solid process.
I think I would enjoy the results

Just also seems a little spendy to get done.
It almost seems like dickmeyer could build a custom manifold cheaper than the process itself.

^ very possibly. and if Matt does that, you'll be sure to know that it will flow better and deliver MORE torque because he'll likely use longer runners in a custom build.

Yeah I think for the price it may not be as feasible as I'd like.

Intakes tend to be a better balance than exhaust from factory. If you have a b6 or a higher compression b3 id say chop away. Again there is a balance...ive personally gutted intskes on cars and regretted it until i boosted or regeared..
