G25mr trans Gear Ratios

Is the gearing for the EGT & XR2 the same? I've read that the gearing numerically higher. Was wondering what gears came in the g series trans. Like swaping out a lower final gears?


I found this one but doesn't say the differences between the two(I got both)

I got the capri & the EGT trans. I might have to crack the case open & see what I can end up with

1991-1994 Capri 1.6L Type G with final drive ratio of 3.736:1
1991-1992 Escort 1.8L Type G with final drive ratio of 4.100:1
1993-1995 Escort 1.8L Type G with a final drive ratio of 3.550:1
1988-1989 323GT 1.6L Type G tranny has a final drive of 3.850:1

1st: 3.31:1
2nd: 1.83:1
3rd: 1.23:1
4th: 0.97:1
5th: 0.80:1
Final: 3.85:1

Not like anyone cares about this but if you do this 5th gear swap the 5th gear ratio is .71

91-92 escort gt's had a different final gearset...

mines got the 4.10 gears...

Transmission Model: (5 speed only) 1991-1992: G5M-R 1993-1997: G25M-R
Gear Ratios: (I am unsure if they changed in 93 when the model changed)
1st: 3.30
2nd: 1.83
3rd: 1.31
4th: 1.03
5th: 0.79
Final Ratio: 4.10

from what ive been told buy a friend of mine... hes sure that a Probe GT's final gear 4.63 should swap into the trans without much issue...

SO EGT transmissions can have either 4.10 or 3.550 final drives?..

How do you determine which is which.. I got the motor and trans from a 1994 EGT as well as a spare trans from a 1991 EGT.

WHich should I use?

The 91-92 EGT had a g5mr trans with the 4.10 final
The 93-96 EGT had a g25mr trans with a final 3.55

The early ones (G5MR) would give better accel while the later (G25MR) would give better highway mileage
