hey there guys,
First up, props go out to jerry for this idea.
Jerry (team lightening) and i were discussing different crossmembers and he made a mention for anyone doing a Kia Rio Transmission swap to also look at using the Kia Rio Crossmember.. i had some idea that a different crossmember would be more ideal if the spacing for the mount positions suited us more for mounting a F/G series transmission in regards to clearance.
having a look at this picture i can see that modification would be necessary (unless someone can see differently)
here is a picture of the 2000-2005 Crossmember.
my thoughts on this, would be to measure the bolting positions (where the crossmember is bolted onto the chassis), measure the mount positions for clearance from the radiator and the steering rack as i understand these are our two common enemies when it comes to the f/g series swap (more so on the rear with the steering rack due to the fact the g series mount would virtually sit under the steering rack and support the transmission with very little, if at all any clearance (hence the need for a modified mount)).
If anyone is willing to get a comparative photo of the two crossmembers side by side, that would allow us to compare the differences of each and see if there would be any benefit in using the Rio Crossmember or perhaps the opportunity to study and see if there is any modifications that could be performed to the RIO xmember to be able to use this to our benefit.
