  • Intake manifold spacer

Hey guys. In my never ending quest to turn my b3 into the ultimate highway fuel economy machine, I've come across putting a 2 inch spacer in between the lower and upper intake manifold. It could be drilled and fitted for direct port water meth injection or a secondary fuel source. I'm going to see if my machinist buddy can produce them mass quantity for us. I'm most interested in it for its runner lengthening effects. Longer runners equal better low end torque. Should I make this a one off part, or would anyone like their own?

I would rather a full bolt-on upper mani like Matt did than just a spacer. There should be efficiency gains to be had by just straightening the runners and giving them a nice open plenum to draw from.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

          Prototype!

Would such a part work on both the B3 and the older B6? If so, you increase the interest, as long as it can be demonstrated it works with reasonable testing on both engines.

Me too. Are you talking about the spacer or upper mani?

Actually to make the best use of around ~2600 rpm you might want to make the plenum volume smaller. Everything about this car is a tradeoff. For example a "stage1" or even "stage2" cam shouldn't kill highway mpg, but it would eat up your city taking off from a stop and accel as your powerband changes. Plenum volume and size also moves powerband slightly.

A "Matthew" intake??? I'm dying to have one! Id pay a lot for almost zero gains, cleaning up the engine bay buying 40 bucks of fittings is dumb to still have all that mess. I really liked the matt's design when i saw it the first time.
