  • Festiva bp05 swap

I have a complete escort gt for a parts car and i am in the process of finding a clean festiva. The car that I plan on purchasing is an 88 carbureted 4 speed car. I was just needing to know everything that I needed for the swap. I also pan on switching the dash cluster to one with a tachometer. I know custom mounts are needed, my main concern was the wiring. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

with a carbed car you will need a full FI festy harness and a FI festy fuel tank with all the lines etc. I'd say hold out for an injected festy, when you start with a fuel injected car, the hardest part is fabbing the mounts, the wiring is very easy for the BP as far as engine swaps go. But if you insist..
i'd read this if it still works ---->http://www5.zippyshare.com/v/73351113/file.html

Will do, thank you for your insight. I know that the 90+ auto wiring harness is better than just a carb conversion. Would it be less troublesome to get an auto Efi festiva and convert it to manual then?

90+ festivas have the same engine management system regardless of trans. So if you want a manual trans, get a 90+ with a manual trans. Do NOT get an 89 auto (efi). its just as bad if not worse than a carb'd.

Having done BP into both a carb'd car and into FI cars, you will save yourself a lot of time and headache if you start with an EFI car.

it kinda depends, im assuming you are going to use the escort tranny and its hydraulic clutch setup yes? if so, it might be a wash because you have to do alot of custom work in the floor pedal area and adding in the clutch pedal to an auto festy wouldnt be that bad if an auto is all you can find.
however, if there are alot of options of festys to choose from in your area get a manual efi car to start with.

          good luck!

Clean 5 speed efi festivas are very scarce where I am from. There is an overload of auto 90+ festivas though. I figured that his wouldn't be an easy task, but with help from forum members I am sure that I could perform this conversion, and thank you!

With the escort bp05 engine and g25mr set up, could I use the escort axles? Or would they be too long? The only thing that I have seen so far is Capri and rio axles. I plan on having a turbo set up and somewhere around the 250-350 hp range, so would those axles be able to handle the torque of that range of hp?

Escort axles are too long for the festiva hubs.... So yes you need the Capri axle set

                  1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
                  1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Sorry about all the questions, I just like to learn all I can before diving head first into the project. Are the stock axles able to hold that power?

Stock axles won't fit the G series tranny, they only fit the stock trans

The stock tranny is made of glass and can barely withstand any abuse from an NA BP

I apologize for the confusion, I meant the stock Capri axles

Basically anyone on this site, or anyone that has built a higher powered festiva with a G series tranny runs the Capri axle set..... I even run them in my V6 festiva.... They hold the power just fine, generally the axles don't break, the tires just spin or the differential breaks lol

Good to know. I planned on using one of those $300 2 way limited slip differentials off of ebay until I could get get a helical one. I figured that would last a little while if it wasn't ragged out. By the way, your turbo KLZE is awesome! Your car makes me want to go work on my fabricating skills lol

                              Festiva bp05 swap

That $300 LSD you're talking about, if it's a phantom grip, save your money cause those things are garbage, I ran one when I first built my festiva and it eventually put enough stress on the diff pin to cause it to rotate, shearing the roll pin that holds it in place, then the diff pin started coming out of the diff, destroying my tranny

Phantom grips are garbage that don't work worth a damn and only put a much higher risk to destroy your already weak differential

I picked up my Mfactory LSD for $500 used off of clubprotege, I highly highly recommend running a regular open diff vs a phantom grip and use that $300 as a start towards an Mfactory.... And that's speaking from personal experience
