  • Diaphragm pump with an fmu

I ordered a 12:1 fmu for my sophisticated water methanol injection system I'm making for my turbo build. It's in the mail as I speak so once it's hear I have no reason not to get my 9b turbo b3 done. The guy that lets me work on my cars in his garage and I like to over complicate things for no apparent reason. My goal is max boost with no electronic tuning. So I'm using an fmu to bump the pressure up under boost to a water methanol nozzle for never ending progressive injection. My biggest thing, with ideas aside of whether or not the fmu will be corrosion resistant, I want to know if anyone could foresee an issue with a diagram pump being pressure regulated. If I can keep the max pressure under the pumps internal fuel cut pressure, will fuel pulsation reek havoc on my fmu?

I've been thinking of ways to dampen the pulse from the pump, maybe an air cavity, or softer hose. My 280z had an inline spring dampener because the fuel pump was something special back in the 70s with their primitive fuel injection. Maybe I just shouldn't worry about it because my nozzles won't be affected by pressure like a fuel injector would. I just don't want my fmu to get ruined. Someone here has to have experimented with this before

So you're using a fmu for the meth? They are made for fuel, and you will need some type of fuel increases to make an otherwise na car run well under boost. I've turbocharged many cars, and without extra fuel dont expect to get past 3~4 lbs before it falls on it's face.

I've seen fuel ruin fmus so I'm going to say meth would be rougher on it.

That's what the fmu is going to do. Increase the pressure to the meth nozzle under boost. Supposedly the only parts in an fmu that are exposed to the fuel are stainless steel.

Just like a fmu would increase the pressure to the fuel injectors like everyone else has theirs set up.

Should work then as long as the pump can handle it.

What are you doing for fuel?

Literally all my fuel enrichment is coming from the methanol. I'll have a wide band o2 to keep it in check, I figure this method won't work if I can't keep the air fuel between 13.5 and 11. Which are known ok ranges for boosted

I am adding an adjustable fpr on my fuel rail for fine tuning. I got a gorgeous aem fpr. They make high quality parts

I think you're still gonna need some fuel enrichment but let us know how it turns out

All I really wanted to know is if you thought a diaphragm pump would destroy my fmu because they pulse output

Or cause it to have regulation issues of any kind

If it makes you feel any better I'll be using a 1200cc min nozzle. Lol. It should put out 18 gallon an hour at max flow. I'm going to pressure regulate and find is flow at 40psi, so I can calculate all pressure changes and flow changes from there.

I'm not sure if the pulse effect is going to do anything because it seems that it would be the same source wether its fuel or meth. I have seen an FMu get a hole just from fuel. not very common though. how many pounds of boost are you planning on running

I'll figure out when my clutch fails, then I'll upgrade accordingly. I don't actually expect to find peak boost this go around. But a td04 9b is good for around 18psi on my motor with no waste gate

My goal is to have fun with my first turbo build and tuning, and then upgrade to the b8me. With a bigger turbo. So hopefully I'll have the g transmission in place before I do an engine upgrade
