  • BP bearing support plate?

I have a BP from an EGT, and a BP from a Protege. Both are 93's. Is o e any better than the other for building a stronger more reliable engine? Or is the main bearing support plate the only difference?

1 more question, will the support plate bolt on to the EGT BP. Cause I'd rather build that one since it only has 27k miles.

As far as I know, the MBSP is the only difference. (aside from fuel rail connectors - mazda uses hose/clamps, ford uses their quick connect system)
I think you can add the MBSP to an EGT engine, but I don't remember if it bolts on or requires modding/a different oil pan.

i daily drove my bone stock EGT bp boosting 14psi and making 256whp. i dont think the mbsp will make a difference.

my EGT BP used hose clamps not special ford connectors with the steel square fuel rail.
I know its a piece of crap but im still faster...and its 100% legal!!!!!

Thanks guys. I guess I will see if the plate fits with the EGT oil pan. Just because. If it doesn't then I won't worry about it. Works for me.

This is straight from a Club Protege Sticky comparing EGT and Protege BP's

          ENGINE INTERNALS:

The engine block itself, the head, manifolds, cams, pistons, rods, etc are all identical. the one difference worth noting is that escort engines do not have a MBSP (main bearing support plate). this is a stamped steel plate which is sandwiched between the oil pan and block, and bolts to 4 of the 5 main bearing caps. it helps to prevent crank flex at high RPMs and high loads. if you can get one with the mounting bolts from a protege or miata BP it will bolt right up to your motor. its a nice thing to add if you have to remove the oil pan for some other reason.
