  • will a 88+ honda civic shifter fit a festiva?

    Im almost positive somone did a write up on this a long time ago, I think i cut my shifter a lil too short, heh..

    Honda shifters a $1.00 on ebay..

    anyone have confirmation that they fit?

    why hack a civic shifter when you can buy a pacesetter that's meant for the application :cry:

      the honda shifter does work, and is only $0.99 plus $8.00 shipping.

      the pacesetter, even my price thru keystone is like $68.00...

        I have the 88-91 civic shifter in my pimptiva works fine. The main ball is ever so slightly different in size, but ti works fine.

          if you do it post how much better than stock you think that cheapo one is... i've always assumed for that price it was probobly crap.

          Logan do you know if its that cheap one or a better one in pimptiva?

            I put it in my self, cost me 99 cents :-) Plus the 8 or 9 bucks shipping. Its basicaly just a piece of steal and powdercoated, not to much they can chintz on.

            I like it alot better than the stock one too.

              i was lookin @ them and they have 2 kinds, straight and ones that have quite a bend in them... i know functionally the acomplish the same thing but i ahve never driven one with a "bend" in it, do you like/dislike this more than straight? doesn't make sense to me... i think stright would be better.

                I didn't know there was two different types, but mine does have the bend in it. I believe it has something to do with how shifter knob is sitting in relavance to your hand. With the bend in it when you shift into 1,3,5 the shifter is farther forward than if it was just strait, but its only like 2 inches. I sit pretty far back from my steering wheel (well as far back as my custome seat mounts allow actually) and I still shift fine, even totally restrained in my seat harnesses where I can't naturally lean forward to shift.

                Its all up to your personal preferance I guess.

                    Indeed, please do. I'm spoiled by the short throw i have in my SVT and the festiva's throws are just too much to bear.

                      not much I can show you, I will take a picture of the shifter in the car, but as far as assembly I refuse to take it back apart because of the the pressure spring that holds the ball down into the cup is a REAL BITCH to get back in.

                          Food for thought... The $1 shifters are not balanced properly for the shorter throws on a civic(they are made for a quicker shift, not proper balance - balance is required for the longevity of the transmission - bent shift forks anyone?)Now since even a nice balanced one that is balanced out for a civic tranny isn't a correct piece for the festiva(might fit, but not balanced right or the correct length either for the festiva), just imagine how much worse a cheaper one will be to the festiva transmission. But hey, you saved alot of money on the short throw shifter only to have to spend it on the transmission later on. ops:

                              Balance? WHAT?!?

                              I've never heard of balancing a shifter.
                              You can bend the forks with the stock shifter, balanced has nothing to do with that.

                              The only way to keep from bending the forks is to either not shove the shifter into the next gear or buy a shifter that has adjustable stops to prevent that from happening.

                              Balance?
