  • BP throttle position sensor help

    Well I got in a rush again and forgot to remember that the FPS is different between the automatic and manual bp's.

    I pulled off the throttle off the bp I bought:
    {picture will not attach}

    So my question is, other than the difference in pins, How are the sensors different? how are they not interchangeable? Could I just replace the whole throttle with a manual one?

      the ATX one has a potentiometer that continuously sends a signal to the EGI control module and the signal varies depending on throttle blade angle so it is constantly sending a signal. it also has contacts that close when the throttle plate is closed to stop pulsing the injectors during deceleration.
      the MT one just has 2 sets of contacts. one set is closed at idle and the other set will be closed during WOT so it only sends a signal during these 2 events.
      i know this doesn't actually answer your Q but i'd say it'd be best to stick with the one that matches your trans.

        So am I wrong thinking that the manual transmission has a 3 pin TPS? The automatic TPS has a 4 pin setup. The manual transmission BP TPS and the manual B3 TPS both function in 2 settings of idle, and WOT, Correct?

          3 wire is from a manual
          4 wire is from an auto
          The 4 wire can not be easily tricked to work like a 3 wire. There are 2 wires similar between the different TPS but the other wires are different. Sensors are not interchangeable. You will have to swap the complete throttle body.

            so the manual BP TPS is setup like the B3 TPS, having a little rod thing that goes in the sensor to move it, and the auto TPS has the circular disk stuff in it? (cant think of better words to describe the contact mechanisms) Would the B3 TPS work on the BP if it was made to fit onto the throttle body?

              im almost positive that the b3 and BP TPS are the same (same part #)
              edit: did a quick search on rockauto.com: one for a 1993 mazda protege tps and another for a 1993 ford festiva tps. Part numbers match.

                maybe I can modify the festiva one to work. someone should just sell me a manual throttle though.

                  TPS may be the same, but you can't put a 3 wire TPS on a 4 wire throttle body.
