  • B6t swap... should I do it?

Currently I have a 93 L with 198k as of today. dinged up badly and has some slight body rust but the undercarriage is spotless minus a tiny patch from a water leak. got a message from a guy 200 miles from me who has a super clean one in the same brilliant blue (with a blown engine) and multiple xr2's all below scrap price. how hard would the b6t swap be for someone with semi limited garage space? although I do have about every tool I could need and a guy 2 doors down is a professional welder. Thanks

      Read this.

Shadetree is very good at B6T swaps. I've seen the one he did on barbie car for Danny. Might want to talk to him too.

Do it! I built mine in a very tight garage spot and have no regrets. If you do things correctly then you'll have a Festiva that can pull with a Z06 vette in the straights and embarrass everything in the corners. If I were you though, I'd just start off with mega squirt rather than using the B6t management. There is a plug and play for the Festiva and it'll save you a lot of time and give you a better window for performance.

Do you happen to have the link for the plug n play? I plan on doing this all in the spring when I have a tiny more cash, but if cheap enough i might get the festiva and xr2 soon. id like to have both xr2's but then again im a high school-er and have parents who don't like me having a salvage yard going lol... he says the stiva is blown up(although its super clean) and one xr2 runs and the other was rebuilt but doesnt run... of the two which would you opt for?

Hard call. The b6t is a very durable engine when properly maintained. The last one I tore down had 146K well maintained miles and it looked brand new inside after I cleaned it up. See here
On the other hand, a bad rebuild can hurt the engine worse than no rebuild at all. I haven't found replacement piston rings that are worth a crap for these engines so I re-use the originals and have good results. It's also very easy to overhone the cylinders and make an otherwise fine engine into a sloppy one. I would request a build sheet with any rebuilt engine before choosing it over a good solid runner.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! hopefully I can workout getting the two cars if he'll sell only 2/3 of them.. I really would like 3 but im limited to a car dolly to tow them. figuring 20 mpg id be looking at 140 in gas to there and back twice. If I go in my slammed c10 id probably get about 8-10 lol
