  • Innovate wideband?

I am about to buy an Innovate wideband for the carbed 88 B6 sohc swapped Festy I have, and there are a few different types of the wideband that Innovate sells.

    -APSX D2
    -DB LC1
    -DB LC2
    -MTX-L

^ These are a few that I am looking at.

Is one of these better than the others, or one of these a better application for the carb set up I have?

I know very little about these widebands, except what I have read on sites about them.

I have been wanting to get a wideband for a while, just got the tax refund, ready to get one now.

I currently have a Weber 32/36 on the B3 carb intake. I have recently acquired a B6 carb intake, which will be installed soon. I want to install a wideband before I swap to the B6 carb intake, to try out carb settings and A/F settings with the B3 vs B6 carb intakes.
I will be installing the wideband with the B3 intake and then swapping to the B6 intake.

I know I don't need the fancier widebands, with controllers and other... etc

Are all the bungs and O2 sensor the same threads for the exhaust mani?

    As always, thanks in advance!

I've had my LM-1 for 12 years now, it's helped me tune hundreds of cars and it is still going strong. It needs a new sensor about once a year, but I use it on a lot of leaded fuel cars. I've never owned an LC-1 or 2 but I've heard you need to be more careful where the sensor is mounted than the lm-1. I think the LC series is the same parts as AEMs products.

That's all I know. I hope that is of some help.

Of course that helps! Any info is better than no info

But your statement about sensor location brings up another question. Do you mean sensor location, in the manifold vs father downstream, in the downpipe?

FYI, I have the B6 stock ex manifold, bung is in stock location in the manifold. But I do have a header to install and I can change location on that.

Wideband sensor needs to be placed further downstream than a regular narrowband. About 3 feet downstream. Otherwise it'll overheat.

I've used the MTX-L for a few years now. Nice little all in one gauge. Good for a permanent install. $150 for everything including sensor.

Also they're all relatively "fancy" as in wideband sensors require a controller.

Mtx L here too. Good unit for the money. I used a lc1 before, but it had a big control box that is incorporated into the mtx L

This is the Innovate APSX . It does not use a controller. What does a controller do anyway? Do I need one with the carb setup? I am checking my options before I buy it now.

            http://www.ebay.com/itm/APSX-D2-Digi...b79734&vxp=mtr

This is the LC2. I believe that is the controller in the pic? It looks small.

            http://www.ebay.com/itm/Innovate-Mot...173302&vxp=mtr

I like the idea, if I have to have a controller, if it is built in like the MTX

Also, I just read on another forum while searching, that the sensor in the manifold isn't that bad about the overheating. Even suggested it was a myth?

Not a myth, too lean (EGT's over 1800) or blow through fire in the pipe (forced induction) will wipe any of these out. That said, MK5 Jetta 2.0 gas turbo has the factory wide-band 8in from turbine outlet, not a problem.
For carb application, if one will read richer than 10:1, get that one. Cold start is he11 on O2's
              No car too fast !

Dan, that APSX is not an Innovate product. Also, it does have a controller. It's integrated into the gauge like the MTX-L.

The LC2 does not have the controller integrated into the gauge, as you can see. With that, the gauge is just a simple output display. Just differences in packaging.

I've got an AEM UEGO in one of my Eagles. It uses a Bosch LSU 4.9 vs. a LSU 4.2 used in the Innovative product. I'm not expert, but the 4.2 requires frequent free air calibration, whereas the 4.9 doesn't. Here's some technical info. http://www.ecotrons.com/technology/b...su_42_sensors/

I want to thank all you guys for the great info. So many choices! Now I don't know what I want anymore than at the start of this!!

Joking! Ha! I think I might go with Eaglefreek's suggestion. I read up on the Bosch 4.2 sensor vs the Bosch 4.9 sensor, and the AEM is so far the only one that I have seen that uses the 4.9 sensor.

For all you that might not know:
4.2 uses air to calibrate and does need recalibrated frequently.
4.9 uses current to calibrate and once it is set, does not require recalibration

Dan, I've been running an LC-1 for about 2 1/2 years now and it works great. Pretty cheap too. More wiring than you might think but not too hard to install. I have basically the exact same setup as you have and the LC-1 was invaluable getting it to run right. Good luck with whatever one you get. You won't be disappointed. Valuable tool.

Most all of them come with a plug to put in the bung, and they say to remove once tuning is complete. After thousands of miles they will all be out of calibration
