  • delrin gaskets?

I remember Advanceddynamix touching on this slightly a while back in my bushing thread.

Well it turns out i have two cars that need headgaskets, lower intake manifold gaskets, valve cover gaskets, and plenum gaskets.

So if im going to spend all that, and dont wanna habe the exra spec milling for copper gaskets done, lets talk about delrin gaskets for some of the lower hear applications. Or would it hold up to the heat of a head gasket?

I wouldn't use it for a head gasket at all......no way it will torque well.

      What about fiberglass reinforced silicone?
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

Why overcomplicate things? Just buy a Fel-Pro head gasket.

Short answer. To be different. There is always advancing technology. Why not capitalize on it?
With 3d printing and that, why not experiment with alternative materials. Could find something cheaper thats holds 10x better than whats around.

Silicone and ceramic did cross my mind. Magnesium and unrefined nylon did as well

Delrin and Nylon can not be used for heat gaskets.
They are at best engineering thermal polymers.
They would never survive headgasket temps without getting soft and flowing.
Silicone, if it is reinforced with some high temp fiber might be used.
However getting someone to make one for you will require $$$.

Think you are think of when Eurostiva made LCA bushings out of Delrin.

I didn't know he made lca's from delrin...
Did he post the end result?
I though nylon had ahigh temp range but i was wrong.

Silicone i bet would have a longer shelf life. ..errr...usable life than many headgaskets on the market. Plus the reuse ability is what would make it worthwhile. Of course i am speculating.
the rx7 guys have ceramic seals. I wonder if that company.....
