As far as I understand 05 Kia Rio's have a cable G-Series transmission that will bolt up to a BP engine or am I incorrect?

What is the difference between the Rio trans and an XR2 trans?

Also can I use a escort get clutch with a Capri xr2 trans? I thought they were the same but I was looking at exedy part numbers and they are different.

The RIO trans is not a full G-series, it is a F series with a G series diff, and it's cable. Bolts to the B series engines and doesn't take much to put into a festiva, there are threads on here that answer all your questions, I'll see if I can find a link to them and post it.

          There's 2 different g series.

Cable operated (which comes in only the xr2 Capri) which is what festy guys like because we use the same clutch cable.

Or the escort g series trans which also comes in the Kia and it is hydraulically operated clutch. They both go to a bp but the hydro trans is clocked differently. It sits up higher in front to clear the hydro slave cylinder.

It looks like the rio had a cable operated trans. I'm not sure if it's the same g series.

you can use an escort gt clutch with an xr2 transmission. Also, to add to what Mike said, the cable G (g15mr) also came in the 323 gt. The escort gt/protoge lx trans is a g25mr. The kia sephia also came with a g25mr iirc, from 1994-1997 I think.

Will the block plate off of a EGT work with the XR2 trans? And can I use the EGT shifting linkage?

What "block off plate" do you mean?

That is a good question. The bp trans is tilted, but the bolt pattern should be the same. Anyone have experience with this?

I'm pretty sure the "block off plate" is what's tilted. The mounting bolts are in a different position. You should be able to put a xr2 plate on an escort g series though. Pure speculation

Block plates will work either or , but bolt holes are different on the oil pan . The front trans case is clocked different on the egt trans compared to the xr2 and rio .
New build on the way .
