Yes, the B6 is the superior swap, a little less torque than the BP, but way easier etc.
We don't even maintenance the 2.3, just plug in a 2.5 from a 2010 Fusion, low miles costs apx. $1200.

Miatas are easy to come by here just the prices are too high I really sety sight s on a b6 dohc due to having toodify the firewall for a bp.

There are a lot of kia Rio too so maybe I'll pull a b6 out of one of those.

You could probably convince it to work, if you got the trans also

Trying to get fun and fast... Really fast! Would an engine out of a 99 protege work? I looked at a really good engine in one recently

Turbo b3 is the most fun set-up.

Would be a Focus/Escape/etc 2.3 DOHC. I would personally never do one of those after replacing valves on one. The timing tensioner design is stupid, the timing setup (both cam and crank) is stupid, and they used torx head bolts which is, well, stupid.

Sweet there are quite a bit of those here! What would I need to do said swap? Don't I need a special bracket?

Proteges. Any 90 to 94 protege would have an engine that works. Best to get transmission with engine though
