  • Festi/aspire cam gear question

Hello all. I bought an engine for Martha (88 carby) out of a very low mileage 94 aspire. When I pulled the timing cover I discovered the new engine has no cam gear. Does anyone know if the cam gears between Festivas and Aspires are interchangeable? I tried searching the interwebs for part numbers but didn't have any luck. I can check myself when I get the motor out of Martha, but that won't be until Friday with Thanksgiving tomorrow, and I need the car on the road before Monday.

    Thanks in advance!

I'd suggest trying to install the timing belt sprocket (I think that's what you mean by cam gear?) from the old motor onto the Aspire. I think they will be the same.

Yes that's what I'm referring too. Thanks for the input. I'm hoping it will work.

To make it 1:1 with the crankshaft sprocket? :-)

So cam timing sprocket works like a charm... New issue is the distributor. Trying to swap my carby dizzy into the aspire motor and it isn't wanting to go into the head. I thought they would swap over? Any thoughts on this guys? It's the last thing I need to drop the motor into Martha.

They will swap and can't be put in 180 so try both ways.
I've had trouble getting distributors in before a bit of oil on the orings and some wiggling usly gets them in.
                        Keep trying and good luck

Thanks! I got it in after some finesse and wiggling.
