  • is an upgrade crank available for bp 1.8????

i have swaped a bp from escort gt befor when i was 16 in an atx festy and it didn't work out(stock ecu) quick but never ran quite right...too stupid to figure out, sold the car (200) I'm a dumb ass..... now i'm in school as a second year student in auto tech... and i have taken performance engine building classes last summer and now i have renewed interest in building a fast festiva.... my question is, is there an aftermarket crank available for the 1.8 bp motor possilbly stroker..... or is it adequete for what i want to do with it... i have the motor tranny axle's ect. escort gt ecm in the car now..... wich took some work but i pulled the motor for my perfomance class and i really need to know if this crank will hold up to 8 to 9 thousand if balnced properly somwhere in the range of 230 to 270 hp (hoping) yes i want to do all this without a turbo.....yes i know i will have to completely re due my engine management...also is there an aftermarket head available if so, there will be a ported stock bp head for sale if the aftermarket one flows better thatn mine out of the box thanx... i'll give flow numbers later if someone can provide me with info on the heads.... oh another question has anyone done this before????

Your best bet would probably be check out the miata forums, cause those guys have been building BPs since before most of us had them in our festys. I'm just guessing, but the large number of miatas with turbos tells me that there probably isn't a huge amount of power that can be pulled from the BP in an N/A setup. But yeah, the miata guys should know a lot about it. I do know that the BP head comes pretty well ported from the factory, so there's not supposed to be much more you can get out of it, but I'm sure a good port and polish would help some.
      No festiva for me ATM...

        stock crank

        LOL....

stock BP can hold 21 psi and 22 deg of timing with good gaz...enough to push around 300-350 HP without any internal mods...

i finally blow it at 23-24 psi ona 100 000 milles engine...it is the pin of the piston smash in 3 peice...piston break and pass thru the engine block...the rest of the rod spin freely on the crank
