  • Automatic Transmissions

I'm planning to do an engine upgrade and I have 2 questions. First, what are the best automatic transmission swap options out there? My other question is has anyone done a manual to automatic conversion in a Festiva? If so, could you provide some info on what you did, parts used, etc.

    Thanks!

The ATX in these cars is plenty robust as it was designed to work with the B6 and B8 engines.
The only swap I did to automatic I used a doner car for the parts and swapped the wiring harness instead of adding the extra circuits. The B6 with auto is a scream to drive!
    No car too fast !

BP + stock automatic. Stock motor with no VICS.

Then with some boost, rough tune.

Trans had around 120k miles on it and was a bit worn.

If you wanna be a pioneer, over in Australia their 2nd gen festy aka Aspire had an option of a B5 engine with a 4 speed auto. It's the same F4A-EL electronic trans we got here in cars like the escort gt and Capri, and the Kia Rio. So it's just a matter of finding out what mounts they use and setting up the trans controller. Might not fit with a BP though.

Also, yes there have been many auto-manual swaps. It's not that difficult, but requires a bunch of parts, so it's almost necessary to have a donor car or a car at a nearby pull a part yard.
Driving for me is neither a right nor a privilege. Driving is my passion, as it was for the people who invented the automobile, the people who paved the first roads and the people who continue to improve the automobile. Please respect this passion.

Thanks everyone. I ended up buying a manual Festiva because I found it first. Time to start thinking of what to swap in

My daughter really wants an automatic, so I'm debating whether to try to swap in an auto or try to trade this car for one with an automatic. I'm going with the b6t swap. How does the auto do on the highway and around town paired with the auto?

Mine does good. I never think about it. Hop in and go. I do 88 miles a day to work 0 issues. The auto is just fine. Has enough power stock to drive on any road. But im going to a b6t and need to go to a 5 speed. Picking up several parts this weekend tho. But i would trade you or something.

Swaping the car for one that already has an auto is WAY easier !

Agreed. I think I'll try to go that route first.

Maybe we could trade cars entirely.

Well first off I'm glad to be back its only been about 10 years. But I'll start by saying I have a 1991 Capri manual turbo and a 1993 Festiva automatic. I will be doing the swap this weekend and I honestly can't remember all the exact details. As of now I would like to have the b6t tied to the automatic transmission just for ease of the swap. Can this be accomplished or should I just take my time and put together a manual setup along with the b6t?

Yeah the auto can be used with the b6t.
Would you like to sell that 5 speed from the capri?
