I'm planning to hold it for future upgrade. There is another festiva in the equation I didn't mention. But by keeping the auto do I still get 02 Kia Axels or keep the stock ones(festiva or capri).

Just wondering... will an 01 02 rio automatic transmission bolt to my B3 engine?
If so What other parts would I need to transfer? Axles, steering knuckles, suspension, crossmember, transmission mounts etc?
After reading more about it.. it looks like this probably would not work...Last edited by 1990new; 05-20-2016, 09:43 PM.

Kind of wondering the same thing, Except that mine is an 87 323 wagon that the P.O. put the wrong fluid in and burned the trans out.
Local pick a part wants $800 for a festiva trans that I know is a straight swap, But if I'm throwing that kind of scratch I want O/D.
Would the 4EAT work, If it will fit in a festy I know it'll fit in the mazdog.

I ended up buying a Festiva automatic transmission from a scrap yard to put in Rosie. When I started cleaning it up I discovered
that mud daubers had built nests in the transfer case. I called the scrap yard and they said it should be no problem...just flush it out
with diesel fuel.... so I did. It's guaranteed 90 days so I plan to get it installed this week to be sure I have plenty of time to see how it works before the time runs out.Last edited by 1990new; 06-21-2016, 09:45 PM.

Well flush it out really well, lots of compressed air blown through it and try to use it as much as possible in the 90days.
You could not clean it much so its guaranteed to die but then you have to remove it and go get another one that may also have issues... Problem with cleaning it real well is it may run good for 100days...
Anyhow, how good is the filter on the transmission? They do have filters right? I have never seen an automatic festiva. Probably a good idea to change the filter now, and do it again after a week or so. You can also buy aftermarket inline transmission filters that supposedly filter better than the stock ones to supplement it, but they are meant more for auto transmissions that dont come with filters i think. Or maybe they are just easier to change than pulling your pan every time, i dont know.

There are 16 bolts in the oil pan and some are a little hard to get to when the transmission is on the car but it's not to big of a job to change.
Thanks for the tip about putting a filter in the oil cooler hose. I will do that.
I also emptied the torque converter and flushed it out with paint thinner.
Most of the mud daubers nest appeared to be in the area where the drain plug is and I did flush it out with lots of diesel fuel and compressed air.
This will be the third time I've removed and replaced the transmission so the learning experience is over. I will be pulling the entire engine/trans assembly out of the car to change it this time..as I found it is definitely easier that way when I'm doing it by myself.Last edited by 1990new; 06-22-2016, 01:29 PM.

The part with the big plug in the bottom is the differential.
I would find a new yard to go to. Those guys sound like idiots. Whats stopping them from saying you installed the trans wrong when it does go before 90 days?
Anyway, yeah, the pan filter is just a screen. Its not gonna stop those fine dirt particles. One thing I like to do when I have the pan off is to drill a hole and weld a plug in.91GL BP/F3A with boost
