I'm kinda a moron when it comes to A/T.
So where does the vacuum modulator go on these? (a pic would do wonders)
And would not having one cause the car to not engage gears? (see the second sentence)
Thanks for any help in advance.

After I put the new modulator on, I saw not change in the upshifting to 3rd. Still had to get up to about 55 before it would shift to 3rd. That transmission is now sitting in my garage.. it's very nice and clean with a new modulator. Probably something simple wrong with it but I don't know what it is.
This is a picture of the vacuum modulator. I had a piece of bicycle tube over it in the picture so I could use a pair of pliers to tighten it without scaring it. It is behind the kick down solenoid. In this picture the kick down solenoid is removed and I put a rubber plug in the hole so I would not get dirt in it.
The vacuum modulator is difficult to get to with the engine and transmission in the car.
Follow the vacuum tube from the intake manifold and you will find it.

Thanks a TON, The problem is the little nipple in the modulator somehow broke off on the previous owner while driving.
So I wasn't able to follow anything back to it.
The description I got from her was...
" I was driving to work and hit a dip then it lost power and wouldn't drive anymore."
I'm thinking I probably need a whole new trans, Or maybe a rebuild/overhaul.
      Still Thanks!

After the third time installing an automatic in Rosie, I gave up and switched her to a 5 Speed.
If you work in a transmission shop, rebuilding a Festiva ATX might not be prohibitively expensive, otherwise I would opt
for a "good" used ATX. Knowing it's good before you install it is the important thing. Good luck to you.

It's looking like the 5 speed is going to be the way to go.
          Thanks again,

Hello there. I saw your write up, and am wondering if you might still have the automatic transmission mount. It sits below the transmission and is a triangle shaped piece of metal with a very thick rubber attached to it and it mounts on the a frame under the transmission. I have been trying to locate one, and hope you may still have it available. the transmission mount for the standard transmission is smaller .you can reach me on 817-584-6964, name is Randolph. Thanks in advance.

I already let another member have the old one that was on Rosie, but I have a new one that I bought from FourGreen for $37 including shipping to use on Rosie before I converted her to a 5 Speed.
I will ship it to you to recover my cost for it plus the cost of shipping it to you or anyone else who might want it.(Estimate about $50 total or maybe a little bit less).

Okay My modulator is not the problem, there IS a BIG vacuum leak somewhere though.
Where does this hose go, WhatHoses,
It had the nipple from a modulator stuck in the end of it.
But my trans modulator still has it's hose, Trans is shot I think.
But my engine won't idle right, Could be the decade old gas/varnish I just need it running/driving well enough to make it to the shop.
Then it's fuel system clean, replace vacuum hoses, and probably replace the transaxle.
                Thanks for any help,
                J

Can't match that picture up to my 89, 90, or 92 manifold vacuum ports.

Can you get a better picture at a different angle?
