  • Need input on Hydraulic clutch cable conversion kits

As time goes on our sources for cable G25m-r transmissions are getting harder to find and more expensive as the need grows for them. What i am working on is a conversion plate and cable which will allow you to use the later g15m-R hydraulic transmisons which are more redily avilable.

The G15m-r can be found in such donor cars as Escort Gt, Mercury Tracer LTZ and 1995-1997 Kia Sephia there maybe some other cars to but i cant recall. The g15m-r comes off the Mazda bp engine and will also bolt to a b6 engine. The housing are known to have more casting material in the transmission webbing which is to give it extra strength as well.

the plates will be offered exclusively through The Festiva Store hopefull early April. What i need is some feedback from you guys.

First off how many people would be interested in this? the plates are being CNC plasma cut the more volume we buy the better the cost we can get.

second thing is how should we offer this upgrade. In order to make a complete bolt on kit I would need to source Mustang clutch cables as well as stock festiva clutch cables in order to hybrid the two cables to make 1 complete cable. Sourcing the 2 cables and labor envolved with making the cable is going to drive the cost up. So what im purposing since you have your own cable we can give you the source to order the mustang cable and I will make a instructional video on how to make the cable your self. It's pretty simple you are just shortning the mustang cable using the end piece of your festiva cable and pressing a alumium lug on the end of the cable using a vise or a crimping tool.

Some people have asked about pedal feel. The pedal feel as far as how much effort it will take to push on the pedal will be based on which type of pressure plate you are running. If your using a OEM or stage 1 clutch its not going to be as heavy as if you where using a stage 3 clutch with a heavier pressure plate.

the plates are made from 3/16 plate steel and will most likely be powder coated. The plate is very strong and is supported by 2 of the transmission casing bolts allong with a 3rd bolt which is pivoting off the transmission casing. This similar set up was used in the Festicul with a Kia Sephia transmission,b6t engine and a stage 3 ebay clutch.

So guys post if you are interested as well as if you would want just the plate and make your own cable ( I don't have final cost but I'm thinking the plate powder coated and a few pieces to help you install it will be under $100)

If we do a complete kit with having to buy a mustang cable and either have you supply your own cable as core or sourcing cables will probably put this over $100+.

I think it's a great idea. It may save a lot of individuals the hassle of going through 1, 2 or 3 f-series before finally coming across an xr2 parts car.

Overall, it seems quite simple to make your own plate. However, for an affordable price, it would be nice to save the hassle.

If this where offered would you want a plate and source your own cables or pay more for a direct bolt up kit?

Hot-Wheels, offer the kit both ways, with and without the cable. Great idea, keep going.
An idea can turn to dust or magic, depending on the talent that rubs against it.

This is just the typical hydro clutch transmission?

Yes escort gt/protege/tracer/sephia Trans. They have a little more casting material which is suppose to make them a little stronger.

Sell me a transmission, I'll buy an adaptor too. I cannot for the life of me find one on Craig's.

How can I verify that the trans I'm looking at is the right one. I found one on car part for a 97 sephia 1.8l, but is there a brand marking

I'm 99.9 if it's a 1997 Kia 5 speed it's the right one. There where very few 5 speeds. There is a number on the Trans I will get it for you. If you decide to go Kia you will need to swap diffs. It's a 26 spline however the sephia is the strongest.

I agree with sc72, do both! I am the type of person that would buy a whole kit of mounts - engine/transmission/throttle cable/etc.

I work 6 days a week and having to spend my one day off making mounts ensures me a completion date of 2035. Love the convenience these services offer!
