  • Clutch recommendation for BP on stock tranny

Going to need a new clutch when I swap in a BP.

    Which should I go for?

Luk, Exedy, Spec Stage 1 (Rather not, as it is very expensive, but if it is strongly advised to be use, i'll consider it), BECK/ARNLEY? (Apparently this one's overall diameter is 7 1/2, compared to all other clutches being 7 1/8)
1991 Ford Festiva BP (Full Aspire/Rio Swap) (337k Miles) (Around 95k Engine)
2002 Chevy Cavalier LS Sport 2.2L DOHC Ecotec (Threw a Rod)
    1998 Chevy Monte Carlo LS 3.1 V6 (225k miles) Best MPG = 28

Well if it helps any, I have LUK clutch in my festiva with a B8 swap stock tranny and it slips. I can only imagine that the BP will destroy a LUK clutch easy.

Well Luk is definitely out then. lol

I hear Sachs is also a very good clutch, though I've heard they use Valeo (Still very good clutch maker) clutch disc, but use their own pressure plate.

      EDIT

I think I am starting to lean towards the Spec Stage 1 clutch.

Luk is good if you get their Luk Gold. I have one in a GTX and it is nice. Good grab and a firm pedal. I also have a Centerforce Dual Friction going on a BP now as well. I know they are good clutches. A lot of GTX guys swear by them.

Get with Charlie on the Spec clutches before you buy one.

Ummm yeah, that's why I am asking. lol

Should a good stock clutch suffice? Heard good things about Sachs, or should I just go Exedy?
I do like that the Sachs uses 4 dampener springs, but Exedy has the reputation around here.

I ran and still do a stock replacement from autozone and it held the b6d down for 80k it now slips on hard high rpm shifts .
But I don't drive it easy and I tow with this car .
I know the bp has more power but it may still work.
I've always hear good things about the exedy clutches

Not bad considering I think AutoZone clutches are that cheap Bruteforce brand.

Exedy/Daikin should be fine. Centerforce clutches are not cheap.

No stock replacement clutch will hold a BP. You have to upgrade.

I'm not sure what the guys use since I would never put a BP and E series together myself. Had one grenade on me just putting it in reverse and backing it up 3 feet.

So one for Exedy, one for Spec.

What about the Beck Arnley clutch? It is the only clutch that is 7 1/2, the same diameter as a Swift clutch.

                            Anyone use these clutches before?

                            Rockauto lists the same specs.

Also, why couldn't someone just use a Swift clutch disc with a Festiva Pressure plate? Is it too thick for the pressure plate? Or does the Swift pressure plate have more clamping force, so there would be no benefit?

I have a b6t car on the stock trans. It has been beat on for who knows how long. It has a spec stage 2. It holds the b6t at 20psi spikes no problem!

I would go with the spec clutch all day every day. Wait and save up if you have to but get a spec. Mine daily drives fine but holds when i abuse it.
