Hello everyone. I was searching car-part.com for a transmission and after year make and model it asked me if I needed a 3 or 4 bolt transmission mount for my 88 carby. I'm shopping for a 5 speed for my b6d swap but I don't know what the heck they're talking about. I tried looking at my mount but I was running late for work. The only transmission mounts I've seen pictures of look to have two long bolts. Am I missing something?

They're talking about the bolts that hold the mount to the transmission. You gonna race that thing?

Wth is everyone talking about? All b series transmission have 4 bolts to the block and as far as I know, the front mount changed when the aspire came on board, but I've never seen 4 bolts on any mount.

1993 Festivas could have 3 or 4 bolt mounts according to the info I read somewhere.Unfortunately I don't remember where. Some 1993 and all 1992 and prior had the 3 bolt mount in your pics. The bolts look the same as the stock ones I have pulled.I currently have a 3 bolt Festiva trans in one of my Aspires.

But didn't also the aspire trans go to exterior ribbing? And the final drive ratio changed as well...
I'll have to look closer at my 93 sport.Trees aren't kind to me...

This is valuable information. I've got a few E series stowed away (been collecting them since I built Pedro, just in case). It is nice to be able to distinguish between Aspire and Festiva trans.Driving for me is neither a right nor a privilege. Driving is my passion, as it was for the people who invented the automobile, the people who paved the first roads and the people who continue to improve the automobile. Please respect this passion.

The easiest way to tell them apart is the extra ribbing on the gear case (not on the bell housing). Any E series you see like that has a numericly higher final drive.Trees aren't kind to me...

So what is the final consensus- can the trannys be universally interchanged? If the corresponding bolt mount is used for the tranny, do they all fit the frame the same way?
I'm seriously thinking about an 88.89 four speed tranny for my 96 Aspire because I can get one much cheaper, and the swap or rebuild is otherwise so pricey.
I had an 88 Festy 4 speed I drove from 175K to over 275, with no problems and now I hardly ever do any driving but in towmLast edited by harpon; 09-04-2016, 10:14 AM.

The engine mount for all b3 engines have 3 holes (top pictured mount). The other 2 mounts are front transmission units. AFAIK, the mounts must follow the transmission, not the car. There was a long discussion on this a while back, so a search should help clarify.Trees aren't kind to me...
