just how easy is it? my B3 needs a timing set and is making some scary noises (im thinking bad lifter) and i figure i might as well upgrade to a B6. so is it a direct swap? from what i remember reading years ago all i have to do is pull the B3, then bolt the B6 in its place and hook everything back up. is that true?

Mine has a B6, and although I bought it this way, I have done some research.
From what I gather, the ease of the swap depends on application and donor.
an efi motor, into an efi car is supposed to be the easiest, and nearly bolt in.
I also think the Carb JDM, using an EFI B3 intake, etc.... is fairly bolt in.
Someone who has actually done the swap will chime in here in a second, I am sure.Have had 6 Festys... and counting...

bolt in swap...easy.
keep the b3 exhaust manifold to clear the axle
B3 oil pessure sender different plug style
valve cover (all though the b6 one will work)
hack (B3) the harness for the injectors, splice the B6 ends on
Try to use 323 ecu if you can find one, b3 will work but robs power
TPS sensor from the B3
Flywheel off of the original tranny
change the clutch if you haven't done so already
This is for the 86-89 mazda 323---------------------------------------------------

do it
Yo, Bob from Michigan. I'm also a Bob from Michigan, but a little farther north. Do everything festivawes said. But use the b6 exhaust manifold. Just try to get the old 323 down pipe, or if you can't get it, just order a fresh one for $65. The b3 exhaust manifold is way too restrictive, but you'll be able to see that when you have them both. You do want the b6 ecu, its way worth the change $. The b6 will run on the b3 ecu ( keep it as a spare ) big difference though. I have an excellent picture, of the ecu in it's location under the dash, I could send you. I put a 89' b6 in this summer, and festivawes is right, the distrib. is an older vacuum style, but your 90' festiva dist will go right in, and match your harness. It's a very easy swap you can do by yourself, very satisfying. Now when you get all this done, you can bring it up here to Chippewa lake, and Ice race with our club M.I.R.A. on the weekends.
