  • B6 SOHC engine in to DA festiva carby hook up questions

    so i changed over the original carby b3 engine to a b6 SOHC carby engine out of a ford KE laser (Australia's version of the ford tracer i believe) and need some advice on how to set up all the vacuum lines and gadgetry from the festiva to the B6 carby .... id like to know what i dont need to use on the b6 carby and see what i can make to power those from the festiva harness and soforth

    any advice will be appreciated

    If the b3 was carb, there's no need to change anything. The idle, load comp and timing are the only adjustment needed.

    If the B3 was EFI, remove the factory carb and install a first gen escort carb for simplicity and a little more power potential. Escort carb should need an adapter plate, but since you're from down under it might just slap on.

      I bought an Australian intake for the Laser B6-ME engine which is the 16 valve version of the B6 engine. The carb bolt mounting pattern is the same as the American Festiva B3. Although you would need an adapter plate, I would highly recommend Festyboy's advice to get an Escort carb to replace the current carb. You can also weld and drill and tap the intake to fit the Escort which is what I did with my Laser manifold and my Japanese B6 intake. Here is a picture of my Escort carb installed on a B6-8 valve engine. Notice how clean the carb and firewall are without a bunch of vacuum tubes running all over. The only vacuum tubes you need are the ones going to the distributor vacuum advance. In this particular picture I was experimenting with no vacuum advance hoses and manually advancing the distributor to compensate. You need an ignition kill switch to do this because you have to get the engine turning over before you fire the ignition. Otherwise the engine will kick back against the starter and won't start.
