  • 4,39 Ring & Pinion Gear into a G Trans?

Will a 4.39 ring and pinion gear out of a 92-96 MX-3 GS with the 1.8V6 or from a 93-97 Ford Probe GT fit into a cable series G5mr transmission out of 88 Capri XR-2?

My axles, hubs and brakes are from the same 88 Capri XR-2 that the G5mr trans came from. The engine is from a Ford Escort GT BP.

What all would have to be changed if it won't fit?

The car (RED) is going to be a non-streeter drag racer.

    Thanks for any info.

Thats pretty much how Damkid swapped a KL into a festiva.

Its useless gearing with that kind of power.

No such thing as an 88 XR2, you've got your years mixed up.

Capri XR2 was only imported from 1990-1994. Where did you find an 88?

The guy I bought the car from - a BP swap - said the engine/trans/axles/brakes came from a 88 Capri Xr2. I've written him to find out if that is correct.

So the G5mr trans came with the 4.10 gears installed? If so, it might not be worth the time and effort to change to 4.39 gears, although the 4.39 gears would also seem to be a straight forward swap.

Long ago I use to drag race a 62 Corvair with an auto trans and you could only put in a 3.7 ring and pinion (as memory serves) but it made a big difference. If you don't have the HP, then doing it with gearing is a good option.

If its a capri trans it has the 3.85 diff. If its from an Escort or pretty much any other BP car its a 4.11

Keep in mind that a Festiva uses smaller diameter tires than a Capri. The g15mr gears and final drive are pretty spot on for a B6t in a Festiva. A lower final drive will make first and maybe second gear useless.

The ring/pinion gears from any KL transmission is roughly 1/4" thicker then a BP/B6T G series transmission and will not work

However I believe the Kia Sephia G series has the thicker ring/pinion so that might be a possibility

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?
