  • E series Ratio changes

So, while reading through the FSM to find a spec for the flywheel, I came across an exploded view of the input and output shafts... Turns out that both 5th gear AND the final drive gears can be replaced. As in new ratios can be installed for either or both.

    Descuss...

I mean, it's not like there's a wide selection of gears available is there?

          Haha, I'm working on it...
But this at least also means that those forced into a 4spd trans should be able to make it a 5 speed by using those parts from their broken trans. I know a few members here in that predicament.
And also, the aspire guys can stretch their legs using a Festiva final drive in the aspire box.

this is the # for the complete GTX diff 4.058 vs standard 3.777. it shows a price but availability is probably less than 50% .

Isn't that the same ratio as the aspire?

Hmmm. I've got 2 good 4 speeds and at least 1 bad 5 speed here (broken trying to get the axle out, not from driving.)

I've got two 5 speeds with bad diffs (one aspire, one festiva)... both already disassembled, if someone wants the 5th gear I don't see them doing me much good for the foreseeable future. Although I do have a good 4 speed i could probably convert... or just steal it's diff and rebuild the Festy 5 speed with it. Except I don't drive cars with e series transmissions at the moment.

I wish the E series was stronger than it is. I love the ratios in the 5 speed. The b6d E series 5 speed work out awesome.
