  • Are all G transmission gears interchangeable?

I have read here and elsewhere that all G transmission gears and ring & pinions, especially from the G25M-R series, are interchangable.

Basically any G series gears/ R&P can go into any FWD/2WD G transmission case.

My specific question is can the FWD gears of the G25MX-R four wheel drive trans fit into the two wheel drive G25M-R case?

I have looked up all of the G series gears (there are a lot of them!) and if the interchangeability is true (which it seems to be), you can really build a great transmission.

Since I want to build a transmission specific for drag racing, this would make my life much simpler and the cost savings would be enormous.

Let me know what you know and give a source if your info if possible.

    Thanks!

I believe there are some gear thickness variations between earlier and later transmissions. It's been awhile since I've messed with that stuff so I can't remember specifics.

Did you ever put "G" gears from different transaxles into G transaxle cases and make up your own special transaxle?

      How did it work?

I take it that you only had to lightly machine down the thicker gears to get them to work.

What gear ratios did you put in (if you remember)?

      Many thanks! Doug

I think that as long as you have a range of bearing shims available, so that you can set the preload on the input and output shafts when assembled, you could probably do the swap you are asking about. If you take a full gear set from one version of the tranny it should work easily. If you want to mix and match gears within a set, then you may have to worry about individual gear thickness.

E153 is a Toyota transmission. I believe it came in MR2’s and Camrys. Not 100% sure on both of those.
Carlos is running one in the 9 second Festiva in Florida.

Way overkill for what he is doing. The e153 is massive and probably weighs a lot more than a g.

I figured since he's building such an intense drag car a few passes in he will want to start adding power... then more.... then more lol it's always slow in a couple weeks

Iirc he's going to be running a stockish n/a bp which is why he's cut out so much weight. Hate to see him cut all that out just to have it all negated by a massive transmission.
