  • How many of you guys are running no cat??? or test pipe?

I've had small increases in power and mpg on some of my other cars without running a catalytic converter...have any of you tried it on a festiva? my buddie did it on his geo and got 3mpg!!!!! I don't really see it as a restriction on a 60hp engine but anything helps..btw we don't have any emissions crap where I live so it doesn't matter if I do it or not here

^Um I heard from a friend who worked @ the emissions facility that they are going to only be testing OBDII cars here soon. This is a way to save the state some cash by not needing the Dyno thingy in every station. Also should speed things up. Also only chicago land & st louis area's need to test. But really why would you want to pollute more for the sake of 1-3 hp.

seriously, why pollute can't you see the affects of global warming...i mean here in michigan its a mild -25 ...in the dead of winter...im wearing shorts

          lol...but seriously.
regardless of whether you believe in global warming and that we are the cause of it...if we're going to live on this planet...and live well...and our childrens children plan to do the same thing...we may as well do our best not to screw things up...besides my 300hp escort had a cat and itmay have melted under a rediculously rich mixture...but regardless in the midst of spending rediculous sums of money everywhere else i still had time to spend $130 dollars to put one on (thats on pizza delivery and mall retail money...which is now superseded by college student assistant cashola)

Believe it or not just because the car is small doesn't determine how little the amount of greenhouse gas it gives off, and the more people that think like that the more greenhouse gas. Im a bit of a hypocrite because my Orange festiva has been running all last season without a cat, but I do have a new one to put on it.

I haven't noticed any difference between the BP with and without one on it.

GREAT NEWS THOUGH...turbocharged cars give off signifigantly less co2 (the leading green house gas)...good reason to skip the cat delete...and blow all your cash on a infinitely better option...known as a highly efficient turbocharged engine

Turbo's do quiet the exhaust since they are a exhaust restriction with atleast a 90* bend

Just un bolt it and smash out the innards with a pipe and hammer. Make sure to wear a dust mask and goggles. If you just throw on a straight through muffler, you are done. Many use a cherry bomb half way down to delete the bumble bee rasp.

We have a two year smog test in Southern Ontario. I am waiting for the government to raise the antique car age again so that it will be exempt from emission testing. I guess I will have to wait for another five years. It is possible to insert a test pipe to test the effectivity of the cat. Just need stainless bolts for a quick and easy self change.
